Festival is CANCELLED…
Very sorry folks but the Ipswich May Day Festival has been cancelled due to poor conditions on the park due to heavy rainfall in recent weeks. The forecast is very poor for the weekend too.
Anyone who has a stall or anything similar booked for the weekend is advised to contact the committee for advice.
However…
Those who were due to play in the Community Tent at the festival will now be playing from 12 noon on Sunday at the

12.15pm
Winners of SNC Battle of the Bands
Kicking off proceedings on the main stage will be the winner of the
Suffolk New College Battle of the Band winners, who at the time
of going to press, was still to be decided. Whoever they are, they’ll be
young, talented and up for the cup!

12.45pm
Next up will be the winners of the May Day Fundraiser gig at the
Steamboat Tavern. At the time of going to press the winner was still to
be announced – but it will be one of the best young up-and-coming bands
in the town – the future of rock is in safe hands!

2pm
The Jacob Trio
One of the best young blues bands around, the Jacob Trio cover songs
from the blues greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B.King, Clapton, Hendrix,
Ray Charles and so on… Sam Jacobs plays guitar and sings, his brother
Dan “the hat” Jacobs plays drums, and Jacob Baker plays piano. You’ll be
amazed that a band so young can play the blues so well.

Serenity Zest
Featuring a veritable who’s who of local music talent, Serenity Zest
are a funky six-piece band playing a selection of self-penned, groovy,
acoustically-driven, well-crafted, old-school pop songs – they have even
been known to employ the now, almost extinct “middle eight”.

The Outlines
One of the busiest bands in the region for the last four years, The
Outlines are John Richards, Nigel Foan, Paul Rivers and Richard Burrow.
Packing a whole festival experience into one tight 40-minute set, they
cover some of the great rock acts around today including Coldplay,
Razorlight, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Muse and many more.

YT and the Inner Heart Band
Having collaborated with international acts such at Zion Train, Million
Stylez, Blackout JA, Skinnyman, Daddy Freddy and Shola Ama, Ipswich-
born YT is widely regarded as one of the best new reggae acts around.
Backing him today is the Innerheart band, featuring some of the region’s
finest musicians, whose members have played alongside many reggae
legends including the late, great Desmond Dekker.

Fundraiser
At McGinty’s Bar on Friday 19th March, local band Millionaires By Morning won a well supported ‘Battle of the Bands’ and will open the show at this years Festival on Sunday 2nd May in Alexandra Park, Ipswich.
At the Steamboat Tavern on Friday 26th March a smaller, but just as appreciative audience were entertained by The Phantom Players, Kudos and Whiskey Chaser.
All the acts donated their time and talents for free so that the money that their adoring fans paid out to see them could be donated towards funding this year’s May Day Festival.
